Fontblog

One of the few corporate blogs (hosted by Fontshop Berlin) that deals with questions related to design in general and to typography in particular in a very professional and laid-back manner.

A List Apart

The magazine published by art director Jeffery Zeldman, that sheds a light on web design from the American perspective (in a pleasant way) and offers a score of articles with thought-provoking tips in different categories.

Designobserver

This blog that was founded by three Americans and one British, deals with the topic of design in a very broad way. It's not especially about webdesign but some articles refer to it.

Under Consideration

AIGA Journal of Design

This web offshoot of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, founded in 1914, publishes articles on every single topic related to design. Not much web design (and not well qualified design to boot), yet it offers a more personal perspective of print design.

Creative Behaviour

Also based in the U.S., this magazine has been coming out bimonthly with new content since 2001. Precise, topical articles are complemented by a number of interviews with designers from various fields.

Typography

Vatican Library

One of the most important sites for typography and layout: The Vatican Library has a partial offering of its treasures available online. You can access library holdings from various academic disciplines in a variety of areas here.

Adobe

Adobe offers nearly all of its fonts online (generally for less than you can find elsewhere). Adobe provides background information on the majority of fonts and their designers, which makes for quite interesting reading.

Fontfreak

FontFreak is a good source for shareware and freeware fonts. Most are not complete font families, but their selection of interesting and, at times extreme, fonts is free for easy downloading.

Emigre

Emigre is one of the leading digital type foundries in the U.S. It holds the license to more than 300 first-rate fonts and was publisher of Emigre magazine, one of the best of its kind on type and typography.

MyFonts

In terms of purchasing fonts, it is generally less expensive than Adobe. It also offers a font recognition service that attempts to match the font on an uploaded image with its database.

Typeworkshop

Typeworkshop turns out to have one of the best organized collections of links to websites with information related to typography. Furthermore, it offers a well-designed tutorial on the intricacies of font styles and evaluating fonts.

T26

A compilation of many fonts that are not licensed by the major font shops: cool and off-the-wall stuff, in line with the times. If you're looking for extreme fonts or bizarre collections of dingbats, you'll find them here.

Type Now

An awesome free font website that offers an amazing number of popular fonts (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, etc.) for easy downloading. The fonts are generally very specific in nature and not intended for every situation.

Miniml

Miniml is so minimalist that it does not even have a logo. Its specialty is pixel fonts. They are fonts that are specifically designed with increased contrast for specific sizes to enhance legibility on displays.
