okamo Büro für digitale Gestaltung [Digital Design Studio] was founded by Heike Woltmann and Marcus Lepie in 2006. We have developed and implemented, both individually and together as a team, advertising and design concepts for ten years for clients such as adrian.mehlin.prozessnavigation, the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning, Berlin’s Senate Department for Urban Development, Bioland, Bungalow Records, defcom, Electronic Arts, Hasbro, Industriedenkmal-Stiftung NRW, Ingram Micro, Mänz Kommunikation, Minkenberg Medien, Publicis, Sat.1, Seven Senses, Shell, TU Berlin, University of Duisburg-Essen, Nickelodeon (Viacom), among others.
okamo tackles its marketing and advertising challenges by closely integrating the media strategies available both offline and online to ultimately find the best solutions possible. Our approach to design takes
into consideration the computer-aided tools available and traditional means of print media to convey the desired information and give it an individualized touch.
okamo is specialized in finding the right strategy for the online activities of our partners and clients. We develop turn-key concepts, starting from the development of the visual appearance right down to the technical implementation of the concept.
okamo provides its own Content Management System based on open source components. mikaa strictly content makes it possible for users to manage the content and structure of their website online and directly in their browsers. We round off our service by offering interactive services for communications with the users of the respective website.
We did not intend for our agency's name to have any real meaning. In fact it was automatically generated along with several other names by a program we wrote based on a limited number of random rules. The program used processes of various combination possibilities for vowels and consonants to produce a list of new, abstract words as output. From the very beginning we found okamo to have an interesting sound with nice shapes and is easy to communicate to others. Furthermore, it was still available as a .de domain. The name generator produced other alternatives such as "oki" and "mikaa." We also used another interesting method to search for a name for the agency, by researching the names
of female stars in A- and B-movies from the 1930s and 40s. In a third method we created a list of meaningful/meaningless descriptive names, which produced results such as "Pursuit of happiness" and "Life's a river, kid." The decision to use okamo was unanimous after several weeks. okamo also happens to be the name of a tributary river of the Amazon, a village in Finland, and a Japanese family name. We are touched by and are aware of all these connotations. And now we add one more to them with our agency called okamo Büro für digitale Gestaltung. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
